How can the distribution and exercise of political power over a territory be best understood? It can be best understood by comprehending the idea of what a state is.
States occupied the central position in understanding the distribution and exercise of power over a territory. What has modified the state's position? The emergence of regional and global institutions.
What are some of the politically relevant items of information we can link to Thomas Paine's name? He was one of the Founding Fathers and signataries of the US Constiturion and he pinpointed what the main role of any state is.
What are some past and present examples of loose overarching polities? Past: Holy Roman Empire, Roman Catholic Church Present: regional and international (multinational) organizations
What type of watershed events have usually broken the identification between a monarch and the state power? (Obviously) revolutions
What is the execution of Charles I (king of England, Scotland and Ireland) an instance of? It is an instance of split of the identification of the state power with the monarch. +an instance of people's demand to have a say in government.
What contributed significantly to the emergence of the modern state form (as we experience it today)? The process of industrialisation and the emergence of capitalist economic relationships
What is the International Monetary Fund an example of? It is an example of a loose overarching polity.
Where do we find the origin of the idea of state? In Aristotle's idea of organized communities which grow out of primitive communities, + his work entitled "Politics", 3rd century BCE
What is the definition of institution? An institution is an organization or establishment created with a certain purpose.
