Valproic Acid MOA unknown
Valproic Acid Warnings fatal hepatotoxicity - decreases w/ age, in 1st 6mo of tx, LFTs frequently & stop w/ hepatic dysfunction - also NTDs if taken in 1st trimester
Tegretol MOA limit sz propagation by blocking postsynaptic trasmission
Tegretol Warnings benign leukopenia - do cbc w/ diff @ baseline & q3mo x 1yr
Phenobarbitol MOA controlled substance, decreases monosynaptic & postsynaptic transmission leading to a decrease in excitability of entire nerve
Mysolin MOA phenobarb analog, has active metabolites, PEMA
Topomoax MOA adjunctive tx for partial, MOA unknown - might block Na & enhance Cl channel (DI contraceptives)
Felbatol MOA unknown, weak inhibitory effects on GABA receptor binding sites
Felbatol ADR aplastic anemia, hepatic failure (rare)
Keppra ADR suicide attempts, adjunctive tx partial szs
Oxcarbazepine MOA this & its metabolite, MHD, have effects on Na channels (& possibly K & Ca channels) - DI contraceptives
Gabitril & Zonegran MOA unknown
Valium MOA suppresses spread of sz activity but doesn't abolish abnormal discharge from a focus
