Vicarious Learning We learn by watching others be reinforced or punished for their behavior/ This effect is stronger in role models we see as like ourselves
Mirror neurons frontal lobe neurons that some scientists believe fire when we perform certain actions or observe another’s actions./ The brain’s mirroring of another’s action may enable imitation and empathy.
By 8-16 months imitate gestures.
By 12 months follow gaze
By 14 months, children imitate acts modeled on TV.
Prosocial Modeling Positive, constructive, helpful behavior/ People who exemplify nonviolent, helpful behavior can also prompt similar behavior in others.
Antisocial modeling Helps us understand why abusive parents might have aggressive children.
