What does Habituation mean? It means show something until it becomes familiar
What does Preferential looking mean? It means two or more stimuli at once to see which infant will pick
What does visual cliff mean? It means it tests the depth perception
What does critical period mean? It means limited window to learn experience
What does Secure attachment mean? Cries when caregiver leaves, welcomed them back
What does Anxious attachment mean? Cries profusely when caregiver leaves, resistant when they return
What does Avoidant attachment mean? Not caring if caregiver came back, not playing when they returned
What is a Sensorimotor stage mean. Age range : 0-2 Def: Learning through concrete actions
What is a Preoperational stage mean? Age range : 2-7 Def: Uses mental imagery and symbols, cannot understand abstract concepts
What is a Concerete operations stage mean? Age range: 7 - 12 Def: Tied to actual experiences, understands conservation
What does a Formal operations stage ? Age: 13 or older Def: Ability for abstract thought an drawing and logical conclusions
What does Social Norm mean? Means : Rules that regulate social life
What does social role mean? Means: Position regulated by norms for proper behavior
What does social culture mean? Means : Set values and beliefs shared by the community
What does Situation mean? Means: Situation or environment is the cause for action
What does Disposition mean? Means : Personality trait is the cause for action
What does Self serving biases? Means: Thinking that makes us feel good
What does better than average mean? Means : We are mostly above performers
What does just world mean? Means : The world is fair
What does central route mean? Strength of the argument
What does Peripheral route mean? : Superficial characteristics 
What does the foot in the door strategy mean? Someone agrees to smaller task then a second, larger task
What does door in the foot strategy mean? Someone rejects a known lather task then more likely to accept smaller task
What does Cognitive Dissonance mean? Inconsistency in attitudes, beliefs or action
What does Entrapment mean? Gradual process where someone escalates commitment to action in order to justify investment
What is Object permeance? Means: Object exists even if you cannot see or touch it
What is Conservation? Physical properties remain the same regardless of form or appearance
What is Infant Directed speech? It means that they have higher pitch and exaggerated intonation
What is telegraphic speech? It means the first string of words that the child says.
