HMG-CoA REDUCTASE INHIBITORS side effects include CNS- headache, dizziness, insomnia, GI- flatulance, abdominal pain, cramping, constipation, nausea
HMG-CoA REDUCTASE INHIBITORS contraindicated in those with hypersensitivity to drug, serious liver disorders and pregnancy(catefory X)and lactaition
HMG-CoA REDUCTASE INHIBITORS use catiously with history of alcoholism, acute infection, hypotension, trauma, endocrine disorders, visual disturbances, and myopathy
BILE ACID RESINS bind to bile acids to form an insoluble substance that cannot be absorbed by the intestine
BILE ACID RESINS hyperlipidemia and pruritus associated with partial biliary obstruction
BILE ACID RESINS side effects- constipation, aggravation of hemorrhoids, abdominal cramps, flatulance, nausea, increased bleeding tendencies related to vit K malabsorption, and vit B & D deficiencies
BILE ACID RESINS contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to drug, and those with complete biliary obstruction
BILE ACID RESINS use cautiously with liver and kidney disease, during pregnancy(category C)& lactation(decreased absorption of vitamins may affect the infant)
FIBRIC ACID DERIVATIVES also known as fibrate, Clofibrate, Fenofibrate, Gemfibrozil
FIBRIC ACID DERIVATIVES uses vary depending on the drug
FIBRIC ACID DERIVATIVES side effects- nausea, vomiting, GI upset, diarrhea, cholelithiasis(stones in the gallbladder) and cholecystitis(inflammation of the gallbladder)
FIBRIC ACID DERIVATIVES contraindcated in patients with hypersensitivity to drug, with significant hepatic or renal dysfunction or primary biliary cirrosis cause these drugs may increase the already elevated cholesterol
FIBRIC ACID DERIVATIVES use cautiously during pregnancy(category C), not during lactation, or in patients with peptic ulcer disease or diabetes
MISC ANTIHYPERLIPIDEMIC DRUGS includeniacin and ezetimibe
MISC ANTIHYPERLIPIDEMIC DRUGS side effects- GI-nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea other- severe, generalized flushing of the skin, sensation of warmth, severe itching or tingling
MISC ANTIHYPERLIPIDEMIC DRUGS contraindcated in patients with hypersensitivity tp niacin, active peptic ulcer, hepatic dysfunction and arterial bleeding
MISC ANTIHYPERLIPIDEMIC DRUGS use cautiously with renal dysfunction, high alcohol consumption, unstable angina, gout and pregnancy(category C) and lactating women should not use ezetimibe
