Hemisphere | Where latitude and longitude divide the earth into halves both vertically and horizontally |
Region | An area/division with definable characteristics that does not necessarily have fixed boundaries |
Nation | Land mass occupied by people, sharing common territory AND government |
Climate | Summary of common weather conditions over a period of time |
Appalachian Plateau | Smallest region, Northwestern corner of Georgia |
Blue Ridge Region | Northeastern region; Receives most rainfall, many major rivers begin in this region. |
Coastal Plain | Largest region; covers approximately 60% of the state |
Piedmont Region | Most populated region; Excessive amount of red clay; "Foot of the mountains." |
Valley and Ridge | Region with open valleys and narrow ridges |
Commoners | The workforce in Mississippian culture |
Elites | The power holders in Mississippian culture |
Mississippian Natives | Last MAJOR prehistoric Native American culture in Georgia; large scale farmers, mound-builders |
