Psych science/ the scientific method

TermDefinition
Hindsight Bias Belief after the fact that you could have predicted the outcome.
Overconfidence The tendency to think we know more than we do.
Perceiving patterns in random events Humans like order, We see patterns where they don't exist because it brings comfort.
Descriptive Often describes behavior by using case studies, surveys or naturalistic behavior.
Correlational Associate different factors or variables (refers to anything that contributes to a result).
Experimental Manipulated variables to discover their efforts.
Survey Pro: Large sample size Con:Must make sure to use random sampling or you get sampling bias
Naturalistic observation Pro: No interferences comparatively easy to carry out. Con: Does not demonstrate causation
Case study Pro: Very in-depth knowledge about a unique case that cannot be replicated for ethical reasons Con: Results may nit be generalizable
Samplig bias Why is it bad: A flawed sampling process that produces an unrepresented sample How do we fix it: You want to get a random sample
Wording effects Why is it bad: It may cause data to become more inaccurate How to fix it: You want to make sure you are wording the question in the most accurate way
