Developmental stages across the lifespan

lifespan development (language) refer to age-related changes that occur from birth, through out a persons life into and during old age Psychologists aim to understand, describe, explain and predict the many ways in which our thoughts feelings and behaviour change throughout our lives
Stages • Infancy birth - 2 • Childhood 2-10 • Adolescence 10-20 • Early adulthood 20-40 • Middle age 40-65 • Older age 65+
Physical development Involves the changes in the body such as development of the brain and nervous system, bones, muscles, motor skills, hormonal changes of puberty and menopause Fine motorr - small muscle Gross motor - large muscle
cognitive development Involves the changes in an individual’s mental abilities ;such as process information through perception learning, language, moral resaoning, problem solving and decision making
Social development Involves changes in an individuals relationships with other people and their skills in interacting with others, such as their ability to form and maintain close relationships with others in a group situation
Emotional development Involves changes in how an individual experiences different feelings and how these feelings are expressed interpreted and dealt with
