TermDefinition
latitude the east-west parallel lines in a grid. measure distance north and south of the equator.
equator an imaginary line encircling the earth equally divides the north and south poles.
longitude the north-south meridian lines in a grid. measure east and west of the prime meridian.
prime meridian imaginary line that passes through the north and south pole. it shows 0 degrees longitude.
region an area with one or more features that make it different from surrounding areas.
landforms the natural features of the Earth's surface.
climate the average weather conditions in a certain area over a period of time.
environment all the live and nonliving things that affect life in an area.
diffusion the spread of people, ideas, things, and diseases from 1 the another.
resources the materials found on earth that people need and value.
continents 7 great land masses of the world. Africa, Asia, Antarctica, Australia, europe, north America and south America.
geography the study of the Earth's geophysical and cultural features.
compass rose a circle showing the principal directions printed on a map.
cartography the study of practicing, and making maps.
