| pressure | the amount of force exerted per unit area of a surface |
| temperature | a measure of how hot (or cold) something is; specifically, a measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in an object |
| thermal energy | the total kinetic energy of a substance’s particles |
| condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
| boil | a phase transition from the liquid state to the gas state; happens at 100 degrees Celsius at sea level |
| evaporation | the change of state from a liquid to a gas that usually occurs at the surface of a liquid over a wide range of temperatures |
| melt | change of a solid into a liquid when heat is applied |
| deposition | the change of state from a gas directly to a solid; The process in which material is laid down |
| sublimation | the change of state from a solid directly to a gas |
| freeze | change of a liquid into a solid when heat is reduced |
