TermDefinition
Psychometric Domain Concerned with the quantification and measurement of mental attributes, behavior, performance, and improvement in tests used to measure psychology. EX: If someone was asked to repeat sequences of numbers or put together a small puzzle.
Personality Domain Refers to long standing traits and patterns for each individual. EX: Factor 5/Big5 models can assess personality traits and compare similarities vs differences with individuals.
Industrial-organizational Domain Study and use of psychological concepts and practices to a company. Help maximize efficiency by improving hiring and promotion strategies and employee motivation. EX: Making tests to measure employee and potential employee. job knowledge and skills.
Experimental Domain Concerned with testing theories of human's thoughts, feelings, actions, and any human aspect involving the mind. Can include branches like cognitive and behavioral psych. EX: Pavlov's Dog developed a theory about learning and association with animals.
Social Domain Focuses on ability for humans to interact with others in relation to movement. EX: Stanford prison experiment: group behavior was monitored to see how individuals communicate with each other.
Educational Domain Studies how humans learn and retain knowledge, mostly in educational settings. Includes learning social and behavioral problems that could affect learning. EX: Professors OR program evaluators who research positions to understand how people learn
Developmental Domain Studies development across a life time. Not only focused on aging but social behavior and moral reasoning. Interested in processes like physical maturation. EX: Jean Piaget found that young children don't have object permanence.
Clinical Domain Area of psychology that focuses on diagnosing and treating psychological disorders or other behavior problems. Treats people with psychological disorders. EX: Disorders working to treat are emotional regulation, social problems, substance abuse, PTSD
Counseling Domain Focuses mainly on providing effective therapy sessions or treatments. Pays attention to emotional, social, educational, developmental, and organizational concerns. EX: Measures identity development, personal attitudes, cultural values.
Cognitive Domain Used to understand thoughts and relationships between actions and experiences. Some coined the term to describe the interdisciplinary nature of psychology research. Involves memory, attention span, and mentality. EX: A child reciting the ABC's
Positive Domain Defined as the study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals, communities, and organizations to thrive. Goal is to prove life can be made better for anyone as long as conditions are met. (KINDESS REINFORCES HAPPINESS!) EX: Volunteering
