Basic Stage terms

| What is an arena stage? | A performance space in which the audience sits all around the stage. |
| What is a thrust stage? | A performance stage that extends out into the audiences part of the theatre. |
| What does Upstage mean? (What location on stage?) | The area of the performance space that is farthest away from the audience. |
| What does Downstage mean? (What location on stage?) | The area of the stage that is closest to the audience. |
| What does the stage manager do? | Acts as an extension of the director and gets all communication out to the cast and crew, is also in charge of the show during the actual run. |
| What does a technical director do? | The TD is in charge of implementing and constructing all of the scenery for the show that has been designed by the scenic designer. |
| What does the director do? | The person who oversees the entire staging of the show, and develops and executes a clear artistic vision for the show. |
| What is the plaster line? | A line that is parallel to the proscenium and is usually upstage of the house curtain. |
| What is the center line? | A line that defines the center of the visible portion of the stage that actors can perform on. |
| What does the props coordinator do? | Is in charge of pulling and or creating all properties that will be used on stage for the show. |
