| Contraindication | specific situation in which a drug, procedure, or surgery should not be used because it may be harmful to the person. |
| indication | valid reason in which a drug should be used |
| therapeutic range | range of drug dosages which can treat disease effectively without having toxic effects |
| polypharmacy | the simultaneous use of multiple drugs by a single patient, for one or more conditions. |
| pharmacology | the study of how a drug affects a biological system and how the body responds to the drug |
| precaution | a measure taken in advance to prevent something dangerous, unpleasant, or inconvenient from happening. |
| toxicity | the state of being poisonous |
| trade name | name given by the company that makes the drug and is usually easy to say for sales |
| generic name | Named after the medicine's active ingredient that makes it work |
