| Nuance | A subtle difference to a particular idea or statement |
| Function | To describe the purpose or role of something or someone |
| Negation | The act or process of denying |
| Coherence | A logical connection. |
| Archetype | a character, symbol, story pattern, or other element that is common to human experience across culture. |
| Pacing | The amount of time a writer gives to describing each event. |
| Mood | The overall emotional quality of a work, which is created by the author's language and tone. |
| Point of view | The perspective from which a story is told. |
| Epic | A long narrative poem about the deeds of heroes or gods. |
| Mnemonic Devices | Are techniques a person can use to help them remember something. |
| Tone | A writer's or speaker's attitude toward a subject. |
| Diction | A writer's or speaker's choice of words. |
| Denotation | The exact, literal meaning of a word. |
| Connotation | The suggested or implied meaning or emotion associates with a word beyond its literal meaning. |
| Allegory | A story in which the characters, objects, or actions have a meaning beyond the surface of the story. |
