indications for administration | Used in the treatment of certain cases of poisoning and overdose in the alert patient |
contraindications | Decreased LOC that would render the patient unable to protect their airway (aspiration risk) GI obstruction |
contraindications | Do not administer to patients that have ingested Cyanide, acids alkali’s. Hydrocarbons and Heavy metals or lithium. Charcoal will be ineffective or minimally effective with these substances. |
Medication interactions | Interferes with N-Acetylcysteine, call MCEP before administering to an Acetaminophen OD Milk products decrease effectiveness. |
adult and pediatric doses | Adult 1gm/kg PO Pediatric: 1gm/Kg PO |
special notes | The patient must be capable of protecting their airway overtime |
