contraindications | Severe hypotension (SBP must be at least 100mmHg) Extreme bradycardia (less than 50 bpm) Tachycardia in the absence of heart failure (greater than 120 bpm) |
Medication interactions | Nitro causes a lethal drop in blood pressure (BP), do not assist the patient with administering Nitroglycerine if they have taken a sexual performance/ erectile dysfunction (SPED) medication within the past 24-48 hours. |
adult and pediatric doses | Adult: 0.4mg SL (tab or spray) every 3-5 minutes up to 3 doses (you may only assist with this medication!) Pediatric: not recommended prehospital |
special notes | Common side effects may include throbbing headache, flushing, dizziness, and burning under the tongue |
