QuestionAnswer
Punishment When a change in the stimulus environment occurs contingent on a behavior that decreases the probability of that response class in the future
Punisher Anything that decreases the probability of a response reoccurring
Punish Providing apunisher
Two types of Punishment Type 1 (Positive), Type 2 (Negative)
Type 1 Punishment Positive Punishment
Positive punishment The application of a stimulus contingent on a behavior that decreases the probability of that response class in the future
Type 2 Punishment Negative Punishment
Negative Punishment The removal of a stimulus contingent on a behavior that decreases the probability of that response class int he future
Disadvantages of punishment Avoidance, Negative emotional response, aggressive behavior toward the source, Only a suppression of behavior, Discriminatory signal for the behavior, Replace one undesirable behavior with another, No training in appropriate behavior
Doctrine of Least Restrictive Alternative Other less intrusive procedures must be considered and/or tried and found inappropriate or ineffective before punishment is presented
Guidelines for Punishment Adequate assessment, Pair w/ reprimand, Apply an immediately effective stimulus that is not excessive, Maintain close temporal proximity for punisher delivery, Measure integrity carefully, Maintain careful records
Types of overcorrection Restitution overcorrection, Positive practice overcorrection
Restitution overcorrection Requiring the disruptor to correct the consequences of their misbehavior by having them restore the situation to a state vastly improved from that which existed before the disruption
Positive Practice overcorrection Requiring the disruptor to practice an appropriate alternative response several times
Advantages of overcorrection Normalization, Directly related to misbehavior, Educative
Negative Practice Repeatedly doing the problematic benavior
Guided compliance Hand over hand
Caution should always be taken with Aggressive clients
Reinforcement should never be given During punishment procedures
