Primary visual cortex | Receives processes and integrates visual information. The processed information from the visual cortex is subsequently sent to other regions of the brain to be analyzed and utilized |
Primary auditory cortex | Region of temporal lobe that receives sound and is responsible for the ability to hear |
• Primary motor cortex | o Generate neural impulses that control the execution of movement |
• Primary sensory cortex | o responsible for processing tactile information e.g. pain, pressure, temperature, touch |
• prefrontal cortex | o Been implicated in executive functions; Planning, decision making, short term memory, personality expression |
• Wernickes area | A german physician named carl wernicke discovered a different area of the brain that caused language comprehension Wernickes aphasia results from damage to werrnickes area located in the left temporal lobe near the parietal lobee |
• Wernickes aphasia | Difficulty in understanding & producing written and spoken language that makes sense to others Speech is fluent but does not make sense, talk feely and rapidly - gibberish Dont know they talk like that |
• Brocas area | o Pierre paul broca - a young surgeon working in a hospital in paris pinpointed a specific location in the brain being responsible forr the function of speech left frontal lobe near the motor cortex |
brocas aphasia | A person with brrocas aphasia (non-fluent) has difficulty expressing messages in wods or sentences but they can fully understand speech Typically wods are slow, huge effort to try aand think of words, short sentences Is aware they are damaged |
