parts of speech

QuestionAnswer
morphological test for NOUNS see if a word can be made plural by changing its form with the morpheme {s} - exceptions for woman/ women, goose/ geese, die/ dice, etc.
syntactical test for NOUNS see if a word comfortably fits in the position after noun markers such as "the", "a", "many", "that", and "these"
morphological test for ADJECTIVES see if a word can be given the endings "-er" and "-est" (for short adjectives) and "more" and "most" (for long adjectives)
syntactical test for ADJECTIVES 1. does the word go well between a noun marker and its noun? 2. does the word go well after the word "seem(s)"?
morphological test for VERBS does the word change its tense/ form
test for ADVERBS 1. see if they modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs 2. see if they answer the questions "how?", "when?", and "where?"
