amplitude the maximum distance the wave vibrates from its rest position (height) Measures energy of wave
compression The region in a compression wave where the medium becomes crowded together and becomes more dense
crest highest point of a transverse wave

longitudinal Wave same as a compression wave
mechanical wave a wave that requires a medium
medium substance through which a wave travels
rarefaction less dense region of a compression wave
transverse wave a wave in which the medium(material) moves back and forth at right angles to the direction of the wave
trough the lowest point of a transverse wave
wave rhythmic disturbance that transmits energy through matter or space
wave length the distance between crest to crest or trough to trough
compression wave a wave in which the medium (matter) moves back and forth in the same direction as the wave
reflection bouncing back of a wave as it meets a boundary or surface
refraction bending of waves as they pass from one medium to another
diffraction bending of waves as they go around and object or through an opening
