schema a schema can be defined as a set of linked mental representation of the world, which we use both to understand and to respond to situation.

Assimilation the cognitive process of fitting new information into existing cognitive schemas, perceptions and understanding. Overall beliefs and understanding of the world do not change as a result of the new information
Accommodation When the new experience is very different from what we have encountered before we need to change our schemas in a very radical way or create a whole new schema
