What are the complications of unmanaged pneumonia? Respiratory distress or failure Severe decrease in oxygen in the blood, resulting in altered brain function and sensory perception Bacteremia (bacteria in the bloodstream) Accumulation around the lungs (pleural effusion) Abscess (pus collecting in the cavity of eh lung)
Examples of pneumonia prevention Pneumonia vaccine Practicing good hand hygiene to prevent the spread of respiratory illness quitting smoking maintaining overall good health
