| Term | Definition |

| Commodity | a product that is bought and sold, in this case, an agricultural product (ex. cereals, coffee beans, sugar, palm oil, eggs, milk, fruits, vegetables, beef, cotton and rubber) |
| Economy | the system of how money is made and used within a particular country or region. A region's economy is connected with things like how many goods and services are produced and how much money people can spend on these things. |
| Export | to send a good or product to another country to sell |
| Import | to bring goods or products into a country from another country |
| Industry | a number of companies making a particular product. |
| Service | when a business provides something/works for the consumer and is paid for that work like. For example, when you pay a hair stylist to cut your hair. |
| Staple | a food that is used, needed, or enjoyed constantly, usually by many individuals |
| Supply Chain | the sequence of processes involved in the production, processing, and distribution of a commodity |
| Transportation | the movement of goods and products from one place to another place |
| Fair Trade | trade between companies in developed countries (ex. Canada, Norway, Australia, USA) and producers (ex. farmers) in developing countries in which fair prices are paid to the producers. |
| Fertilizer | a natural or chemical substance added to soil to make it better for growing plants |
| Organic | produced or producing naturally, without using pesticides or other added chemicals |
| Fermentation | chemical breakdown of an organic substance such as the chemical change of a sugar into alcohol or the souring of milk. Fermentation produces gas bubbles. |
| Cacao | is the dried fatty seeds from which cocoa and chocolate are made; also known as a cacao bean. |
