literature review a qualitative approach. A paper that summarizes and evaluates research from a number of studies on a particular topic (what has been found, discusses support of findings, points out inconsistencies and discusses future directions)
meta-analyses a quantitative approach. Combining the results of many studies; employing effect size to compare a given finding across many studies. Determines the reliability of a finding by examining results from many studies
exact replications precise replication of a study to see whether same results are obtained. Failure to replicate: original results are invalid, replication attempt was flawed
conceptual replication use of different procedures to replicate a finding. Same IV operationalized in a different way. May involve an alternate stimulus, may involve an alternate location, DV may be measured in a different way
