| Load | The material that a river transports |
| Deposition | When a river depsosits its load |
| Transportation | How a river transports material |
| Old stage | The last stage of a river where it becomes vey slow and wide |
| Mature Stage | The middle stage of a river where it begins to slow down. |
| Youthful Stage | The first stage of a river high up, small and fast |
| Course | The journey that a river takes |
| Tributaries | Smaller streams that branch off from a river |
| Confluence | The point where two rivers join |
| Hydraulic action | The fast moving water wears away material from the bed and banks of the river |
| Abrasion | The load is thrown against the bed and banks of the river and wears them down. |
| Attrition | As particles bounce off one another the load becomes smooth and round |
| Solution | Rocks such as limestone can be dissolved in water |
| Traction | Large pebbles and stones are rolled and dragged along the bed by the force of the water |
| Saltation | Small pebbles are bounced along the river bed. |
| Suspension | Small particles are held in suspension in the water and the fast movement of the water keeps them from falling |
