Augmentin Classification: penicillin-like antibiotic Uses: bacterial infection RX suspension = shake well CA prevents breakdown of amoxicillin by bacteria
Proscar Classification: 5-alpha-reducatase-inhibitor Uses: Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH) RX do not let pregnant women/children touch it: wash hands immediately if they do also marketed as Propecia for male pattern baldness
Colace Classification: Stool Softener Uses: constipation, used when straining (straining can hit vegas nerve) OTC used with narcotics do not split/crush/chew (liquid gel capsule) take with a full glass of water
Nitrostat/Nitromist Classification: Vasodilator, nitrate Uses: angina RX photosensitive keep in original container tightly closed will diffuse into plastic 1 every 5 min 3x before 911 can cause fainting/dizziness/HA caution with phosphodiesterase inhibitors
Mylicon/Gas-X Classification: Gastrointestinal Agent Uses: gas pressure in stomach, bloating OTC mylicon for infants because crying brings in air
Zetia Classification: Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitor Uses: high cholesterol RX NOT A STATIN: used with statins marketed as Vytorin for Simvastatin + Ezetimibe
Wellbutrin/SR/XR Classification: Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor Uses: depression, SAD RX blackbox warning for risk of suicide can cause anxiety do not use if prone to seizures marketed as Zyban to help stop smoking normal throughout day, SR 2x a day, XR 1x
Xalatan Classification: Prostaglandin Analogue Uses: glaucoma (helps drain aqueous humor) RX changes eyes and eyelashes to brown wait 15 min to put in contacts auxiliary label "For the eyes"
Depakote Classification: Antiepiletic Drug Uses: treats seizures, prevents migraines, bipolar disorder RX narrow therapeutic index (test blood concentration regularly) can cause liver damage first 6 months caution in pregnancy
