| Plot | main happenings in a story or text |
| Setting | the time and place of the story |
| Characters | who or what a story is about |
| Characteristics | the qualities or traits of a character (physical traits, personality traits, motivations) |
| Character relationships | connection between people |
| Conflict | problem in a story |
| Problem resolution | the solution to a story's main problem or conflict |
| Compare | to show similarities |
| Contrast | to show differences |
| Conclude | to predict or understand from the clues presented in the text |
| Foreshadow | a hint or clue of future events |
| Flashback | a memory of a past event |
| Suspense | building tension |
