RLA STAAR vocabulary Poetry

Narrative poetry a poem that tells a story
Lyrical poetry a rhyming poem (example: songs)
Free-Verse poetry a poem that does not rhyme
Humorous poetry a funny poem
Imagery a tool used by writers to use language in text to create pictures in readers' minds

Message Conveyed the lesson, message or theme communicated
Rhyme repetition of similar sounds or words
Rhythm the beat or flow of a poem
Repetition the use of repeated words or phrases
Stanza a series of lines arranged together within a poem; like paragraphs in text
Line a subdivision of a poem, a group of words arranged into a row that ends for a reason
Speaker the one speaking throughout a poem
