Symptoms of psychotic disorders

| Psychosis | condition in which an individual experiences a loss of contact with reality |
| Psychotic disorders | group of disorders characterized by psychosis |
| positive symptoms | experiences and behaviours that have been added to a person's normal way of functioning |
| negative symptoms | take away something from a person's normal way of functioning |
| delusions | fixed false belief that is held with absolute certainty, even when there is strong factual evidence that does not support it |
| delusion of persecution | belief that one is going to be harmed, harassed, tormented, tricked etc |
| self significant (reference) delusion | belief that comments, actions, objects in the environment are being directed at and have a special relevance to oneself |
| delusions of influence (control) | belief that thoughts, feelings or behaviors are being controlled by an external force |
| delusions of grandure | belief that one has exceptional abilities, fame or importance |
