Bias * An unfair preference for or dislike of something
Defeatist attitude Showing a tendency to expect failure or accept it too readily
Empathy The ability to identify with and understand somebody else's feelings or difficulties
Interpersonal Concerning or involving relationships between people
Stimulus Something that encourages an activity or a process to begin, increase, or develop
Etiquette * Having good manners when dealing with people
Communication exchanging information between individuals using a common system of symbols, signs, behaviors, body language, etc.
Tact The ability to say and do things in a way that will not offend another person
attitude a feeling or opinion about something or someone
Punctual Being on time
Dexterity * Proficiency in using the body or hands
Hobby A pursuit or interest engaged in for relaxation
Logical Use of reliable inference and reasoning
Life Stages Changes that occur as we move through life experiences
Leisure Time free from everyday job responsibilities during which a person can pursue person interests and hobbies
Career goals* A well-defined statement explaining the profession that an individual intends to pursue throughout his/her career
Developmental changes The process that occurs in human beings throughout development
Developmental progression The purposeful sequencing of teaching and learning expectations across multiple developmental stages, ages, or grade levels
Interrelated related to or connected to one another
Transitions The process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another
Post-secondary * Optional final stage of learning after completion of secondary (high school) education
AP Courses Advanced placement, college courses taken in high school
IB Courses International baccalaureate, offering internationally recognized courses
Analogy a comparison between two things that are similar in some way, often used to help explain something or make it easier to understand
proofread to read the text and mark correction to be made
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) * a test developed and maintained by the United States Department of Defense
Extra-curricular activities Fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum of school or university education, performed by students. Such activities are generally voluntary, mandatory, non-paying, social, philanthropic as opposed to scholastic, and often involve others of the same
Formal Learning highly institutionalized, bureaucratic, curriculum driven, and formally recognized with grades, diplomas, or certificates
Dual enrollment Involves students being enrolled in two separate, academically related institutions. Generally, it refers to high school students taking college courses
Concise using as few words as possible to give the necessary information, or compressed in order to be brief
Associate's Degree * 2 year college degree from a community college, university, college, or technical school. The recipient of an Associate's Degree can then transfer the credits toward a 4 year Bachelor’s Degree
Bachelor's Degree 4 year college degree from a university/college earned by completing undergraduate coursework and are awarded in specific concentrations
Correlation a relationship in which two or more things are mutual or complementary, or one thing is caused by another
Depression extended period of negative economic activity; unemployment, declining income & production
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) a test that measures the critical thinking mathematical, reasoning, and writing skills students need to do college-level work
