thrive Grow or develop well or vigorously.
vacant Empty.
lad A small child.
parole The release of a prisoner temporarily or permanently before the completion of a sentence, on the promise of good behavior.
wilted Become limp through heat, loss of water, or disease.
equation A statement that the values of two mathematical expressions are equal.
bodega A small grocery store, especially in a Spanish-speaking neighborhood.
pueblo A North American Indian settlement of the southwestern US, especially one consisting of multistoried adobe houses built by the Pueblo people.
gestures A movement of part of the body, especially a hand or the head, to express an idea or meaning.
trowel A small handheld tool with a curved scoop for lifting plants or earth.
troughs A long, narrow open container for animals to eat or drink out of.
citizens Inhabitants of a particular town or city.
maggots A soft-bodied legless larva, especially that of a fly found in decaying matter.
receptionist A person employed in an office or other establishment to answer the telephone, deal with clients, and greet visitors.
