Addition

Basic addition terms

TermDefinition
Addition Finding the total, or sum, by combining two or more numbers.
Add To bring two or more numbers (or things) together to make a new total.
Commutative Property The order of numbers in an addition problem can be swapped and the sum will be the same.
Associative Property When adding three or more numbers it doesn't matter what order the numbers in an addition sentence are added.
Addends The numbers that are being added together.
Sum The answer to an addition problem.
Identity Property Adding zero to any number always has a sum of the number.
Plus Another word for add, also the symbol used in an addition sentence
Total Another word for sum, the result of adding two numbers
