Taste/Smell
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Taste Molecules | Bind to receptors on the cell's extension and cause chemical changes in the sensory cell which results in neural impulses being sent to the brain |
Gustatory Cortex | Tucked under the overlap between the frontal and temporal lobes. Has taste info sent to it along with the medulla, thalamus and limbic system |
Olfactory Receptor Cells | Located in a mucous membrane at the top of the nose |
Olfactory Lobe | A bulb-like structure at the tip of the frontal lobe where the olfactory nerves begin and sends info to regions of the limbic system |
Olfactory Receptors | Complex Proteins called GPCRs. They weave across the membranes of the olfactory cells forming structures that activate the neural message sent to the brain by olfactory neurons |
Pheremones | A chemical message sent by an animal to let a potential mate know its reproductive state |
