Nick Carraway 1st person narrator - the story's events are through his eyes. Middle class, only character who knows all circumstances.
Jay Gatsby No one really knows what goes on inside of him or who he is. Wealthy: New money.
Daisy Buchanan Louisville, Kentucky socialite. Born into tremendous wealth. Empty-headed, fake. She's lovely but very careless. Lacks any substance.
Tom Buchanan Daisy's 30-year-old husband. From a wealthy family in Chicago. "Supercilious", brash, racist, fractious, an adulterer and abusive.
Jordan Baker Golfer. Young, somewhat of a love interest to Nick Carraway. Lacks substance and is a liar.
Myrtle Wilson She lives in the Valley of Ashes. Tom Buchanan's mistress. Desperate to escape her fate.
George Wilson Owner of a gas station in the Valley of Ashes. Product of economic hardship. Myrtle's husband.
Dr. T.J. Eckleburg Doctor whose billboard looks down upon the Valley of Ashes. Billboard has gigantic blue eyes behind enormous yellow glasses, George Wilson calls those eyes the eyes of God.
