extension straightening a joint so that the angle between increases as it opens eg; knee joint in a jump take off
adduction movement towards midline, inwards movement eg; jumpingjack arms gng down
abduction movement away from midline eg; catching a ball (spreading fingers )
rotation limbs moving in a circular rotation around a fixed point towards or away from the body eg; hitting a golf ball ( hips rotate)
circumduction limbs moving in a circular motion extending from a joint eg; tennis serve (shoulder)
plantarflexion bending foot or ankle towards sole eg; en pointe ballet
dorsiflexion bending foot at ankle so foot moves towards shin eg; soloing a ball in gaa
function of muscles muscles pull on the bone providing movement
antagonstic pairs muscles that work in pairs while one muscle contracts the other lengthens eg bicep and tricep
isotonic contraction causes the muscle to change length , also causes movement of a body part
concentric contraction involves the shortening of a muscle . the origin and insertion mov closer together and muscles becomes fatter eg; bicep during bicep curl
eccentric contraction involves the lengthening of a muscle . the origin and insertion move further apart eg; quadriceps when landing a jump
