Human Development the scientific study of how (and why) people change
Intraindividual Change changes that happen within/inside of a person
Interindividual Differences all the ways in which people are different from other people
Interindividual Differences in Intraindividual Change not everyone changes the same way or at the same time; there are individual differences between people and how change happens
Quantitative Change change that describes how much more or less; you should be able to quantify it in some way, ex.) height, weight, language acquisition
Qualitative Change change in kind or type ex.) change in baby's hair color or texture over time, different kinds of play
Continuity of Development things that you passively acquire
Discontinuity of Development people pass through stages of life
Stage Theories moving from one stage to the next
Physical Development changes in the body, brain, and motor development
Intellectual/Cognitive Development changes in how we think and process information
Personality/Social Development changes in how we relate and react to others
Activities of a Developmentalist Describe how people at different ages think, feel, act, and physically change, Explain why people develop the way they do, Predict later development, Modify to enhance the quality of life
