vocabulary words for color and light

| absorb/absorption | to take in or use up and not reflect |
| concave | a surface that is curved inward, such as a mirror, or a lens that is thinnest at the center |
| convex | a surface that is curved outward, such as a mirror, or a lens that is thickest at the center |
| cornea | the transparent membrane of the eyeball |
| dance | to shake your booty |
| dispersion | the separation of white light into colors by refraction |
| energy | the ability to do work; various forms exist such as heat, electricity, chemical and light energy |
| gobble | to eat like a pig!!!! |
| image | an optically formed representation of an object made by a mirror or lens |
| inverted | to turn upside down; to reverse the position of something |
| iris | the pigmented part of the eye which regulates the size of the pupil by contracting and expanding around it |
| lens/lenses | the curved piece of glass or other transparent substance that is used to refract light rays so that they converge or diverge to form an image |
| light | the bright form of energy given off by something (such as the sun) that lets one see objects |
| luminous | emitting or reflecting light |
| opaque | a material that lets no light pass through it |
| optic nerve | connects the retina to the brain |
| pigment | a material used as coloring matter, suitable for making paint |
| prism | a solid figure with triangular ends and rectangular sides, used to disperse light into a spectrum |
| pupil | the round opening in the iris of the eye that controls the amount of light that falls on the retina |
| reflect/reflection | the bouncing back of light from a surface |
| refract/refraction | the bending of a ray of light as it passes obliquely from one medium into another |
| retina | the light sensitive membrane lining the inner eyeball connected by the optic nerve to the brain |
| sclera | the white of the eye |
| stink | to smell like garbage!!!! |
| translucent | a material that lets some light pass through it; objects can not be clearly viewed |
| transparent | a material that lets most light pass through it; objects can be clearly viewed |
| visible spectrum | the band of different colors in the electromagnetic spectrum that vibrate at frequencies our eyes can detect |
| shout | to scream loudly like an animal!!!! |
