energy the ability to do work; various forms exist such as heat, electricity, chemical and light energy

image an optically formed representation of an object made by a mirror or lens
inverted to turn upside down; to reverse the position of something
iris the pigmented part of the eye which regulates the size of the pupil by contracting and expanding around it
lens/lenses the curved piece of glass or other transparent substance that is used to refract light rays so that they converge or diverge to form an image
light the bright form of energy given off by something (such as the sun) that lets one see objects
luminous emitting or reflecting light
opaque a material that lets no light pass through it
optic nerve connects the retina to the brain
pigment a material used as coloring matter, suitable for making paint

refract/refraction the bending of a ray of light as it passes obliquely from one medium into another
retina the light sensitive membrane lining the inner eyeball connected by the optic nerve to the brain
sclera the white of the eye

translucent a material that lets some light pass through it; objects can not be clearly viewed
transparent a material that lets most light pass through it; objects can be clearly viewed
visible spectrum the band of different colors in the electromagnetic spectrum that vibrate at frequencies our eyes can detect
