vocabulary for waves unit
| Term | Definition |

| Amplitude | The height of a wave from the origin to the crest |
| Crest | The highest part of a wave |
| Frequency | The number of wave cycles that pass a given point per unit of time |
| Pitch | The perceived highness or lowness of a sound; the higher the frequency, the higher the pitch |
| Sound Energy | A form of energy that is made by vibrations and requires a medium (air, water, or solids) to travel |
| Trough | The lowest part of a wave |
| Wavelength | The distance between any two corresponding points on a wave, such as from crest to crest |
| Absorption | The transfer of energy into a medium |
| Medium | The material through which a wave travels |
| Reflection | Energy waves bouncing off the surface of an object |
| Transmit | To pass something from one place to another |
| Wave | A rhythmic disturbance that moves through a medium or vacuum |
