TermDefinition
Angles the amount between two rays that have same endpoint(vertex). Measured in degrees
Right Angle An angle measuring 90°.
Acute Angle An angle measuring less than 90°
Obtuse Angle An angle measuring more than 90°
Degrees a unit for measuring the size of an angle, symbol º.
Protractor an instrument used to measure angles in degrees.
Parallel lines that are same distance apart and never touching
Perpendicular Intersecting lines that form right angles.
Area The size of a surface takes up, measured in square units
Line Segment A section of a line, with two endpoints
Intersect To cross over one another.
Rectangle a quadrilateral with two pairs of opposite equal parallel sides, four right angles .
Value the numerical worth or amount.
Tenth one part of 10 equal parts
Hundredth one part of 100 equal parts
Number Line a line marked with numbers which is useful as a visual aid for calculating and showing relationships between values.
Mixed Number a number written as a whole number with a fraction
Improper Fraction •a fraction equivalent to or larger than one whole. • the numerator is larger than or equal to the denominator.
Equation a mathematical statement containing an equals sign, to show that two expressions are equal
Array a set of objects or numbers arranged in rows and columns
Expression each side of an equal sign
Strip Diagram a rectangular model used to show numerical relationships.
Position the comparison of where something is related to another object or its surroundings
Perimeter distance around the outside of a shape
Frequency Table a table used to organize data as an ordered list and their frequency.
Stem and Leaf Plot a data display that shows groups of data arranged by place value.
Digit A symbol used to make numerals. These are the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 7, 8 , 9.
Comparison To decide if a number is greater than, less than or equal to another or other numbers. (>,<,=)
Borrowing The action of taking and using money from a lender under an agreement to pay it back later.
Fixed Expense An expense that does not change from time to time .
Variable Expense A cost that fluctuates(changes) directly with output changes
Lending The process of loaning an amount of money given to someone for a period of time with a promise that it will be paid back.
Savings A bank account that earns modestly good interest, along with the ability to withdraw money easily for modest fees.
