Beadle A minor law enforcement officer whose duties include ushering and preserving order at services and sometimes civil functions
Contumely Harsh language or treatment arising from haughtiness and contempt
Ignominy* Deep personal humiliation and disgrace or disgraceful conduct, quality, action
Inauspicious* Not showing or suggesting that future success is likely
Mien A person's look or manner, especially one of a particular kind indicating their character or mood
Physiognomies* The facial features held to show qualities of mind or character by their configuration or expression
Pillory* A wooden frame with holes for the head and hands used for publicly shaming or punishing individuals
Remonstrance* An earnest presentation of reasons for opposition or grievance
Sagacity* Having keen mental discernment and good judgement
Vie* To strive for or to compete for
Anathemas* Someone or something that is intensely disliked or someone that is cursed by religious authority
Draught To drink or a drink
Efficacy* The ability to produce a desired or intended result
Expostulation* To reason earnestly with a person for the purposes of dissuasion
Gesticulation* The act of making expressive gestures to show strong feelings or enforcing an argument
Paramour An illicit or secret lover
Phantasmagoric Having a fantastic or deceptive appearance

Uncongenial* Not sympathetic or compatible; disagreeable
