| Intersection | Lines that cross and have one and only one point in common |
| Parallel lines | Lines that are always an equal distance apart |
| Perpendicular lines | Lines that intersect to form a right angles. |
| Quadrilaterals | A polygon with four angles and four sides |
| Attribute | A characteristic of a shape |
| Classify | To arrange in groups, by some property. |
| Properties | Features or characteristics of a figure |
| Two dimensional figures | A shape that only has two dimensions of length and width |
| Equilateral triangle | A triangle with 3 equal sides and 3 equal angles |
| Scalene triangle | A triangle in which all three sides are a different length |
| Isosceles triangle | A triangle with two equal sides and equal angles |
| Acute triangle | A triangle with 3 acute angles |
| Obtuse triangle | A triangle with one obtuse angle. |
| Right triangle | A triangle with one right angle. |
| Perimeter | The distance around a figure. |
| Area | The size a surface takes up. • area is measured in square units. |
| Volume | The amount of space occupied by an object. |
| Cube | A three-dimensional solid that has six congruent square faces. |
| Composite shape | A figure made up to two or more shapes. |
| Rectangular prism | A solid three-dimensional shape with two identical, rectangular bases |
| Prism | A solid three-dimensional shape with two identical, parallel polygon bases |
| Three dimensional figure | An figure that has length, width, and height |
| Base | The bottom line of a plane shape or the bottom face of a solid |
| Width | The distance across from side to side |
| Height | The measurement from top to bottom. |
| Dimensions | The measurable size of something. • often refers to length, width and height |
| Edge | The side of a polygon or a line segment where two faces of a solid figure meet. |
| Hexagon | A polygon with 6 sides. |
| Pentagon | A polygon with 5 sides. |
| Triangle | A polygon with three angles and three sides |
| Rectangle | A quadrilateral with pairs of opposite equal parallel sides, four right angles |
| Square | A quadrilateral with four equal sides and four right angles; opposite sides that are parallel |
| Rhombus | A quadrilateral with four equal sides, opposite sides are parallel, equal opposite angles |
| Trapezoid | A quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides. |
| Polygon | A closed plane shape having three or more straight sides. |
| Parallelogram | A quadrilateral with opposite sides that are parallel and opposite angles are equal. |
| Pentagon | A polygon with 5 sides. |
| Right Angle | An angle measuring 90º |
| Acute Angle | An angle measuring less than 90 degrees |
| Obtuse Angle | An angle that measures between 90º and 180º |
