Westward Expansion

Explorers, Trails and Treasure Vocabulary

Transcontinental Something that crosses across a whole continent.
Charter a document, issued by a country or company, defining where an expedition should explore, how much they are paid and what they have the right to do on their journey.
Natural Resources materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain.
Frontier the extreme limit of settled land beyond which lies wilderness
Persecution hostility and ill-treatment, especially on the basis of ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation or political beliefs.
Commerce the activity of buying and selling, especially on a large scale.
Cartography the science or practice of drawing maps.
Claim A demand or request for a piece of land by someone in order to mine it.
Merchants a person or company involved in wholesale trade, especially one dealing with foreign countries or supplying merchandise to a particular trade.
