Cordillera | cordillera, (from old Spanish cordilla, “cord,” or “little rope”), a system of mountain ranges that often consist of a number of more or less parallel chains. |
Altiplano | means "high plain". It is a large, flat plain at a high elevation. |
Escarpment | a long, steep slope, especially one at the edge of a plateau or separating areas of land at different heights |
Llano | a treeless grassy plain. |
Pampa | an extensive generally grass-covered plain of temperate South America east of the Andes |
Gaucho | a cowboy of the South American pampas. |
Hydroelectric Power | electricity generated from water power. |
Estuary | the tidal mouth of a large river, where the tide meets the stream. |
Canopy | refers to the upper layer or habitat zone, formed by mature tree crowns |
Tierra caliente | a cultural and geographical region in southern Mexico that comprises some low-elevation areas of the states of Michoacán, Guerrero and Mexico. As the name suggests, the region is characterized by a hot climate. |
Tierra templada | a region or zone of temperate climate. |
Tierra fria | mountain locations where high elevation results in a markedly cooler climate than that encountered in the lowlands at a comparable latitude. |
