Efficacy definition How well a drug/ligand binds to its receptor
What is EC50? Concentration of a drug that incites half of it maximal effect
What is the Emax? The max effect achievable by the drug
What is the threshold dose? The lowest dose at which a drug is observed
What is Kd? The dissociation constant
Affinity definition How well a ligand binds to its receptor
What does a lower Kd mean? Stronger binding affinity
What is the usual Kd value for drugs? 10^-8 M or lower
Name the receptor superfamilies Ion channel receptors, G-protein-coupled receptors, Receptor tyrosine kinases and Nucear receptors
Where are the ion channel receptors located? Plasma membrane
What is an example of an ion channel receptor? Nicotinic receptors
