Why would you do low intensity exercise with patient in phase I of cardiac rehab? minimize risk of re-rupturing unstable plaque, myocardial rupture, transmural MI or reduce ischemia that predisposes to arrythmias
Who is not a good candidate for ambulation in phase I of cardiac rehab? complicated MI or poor response to postural and self care challenges, angina, bed rest for 4 days or more
What are the goal for discharge in phase I of cardiac rehab? understanding of inappropriate activities; plan for progressive exercise including enrollment into cardiac rehab programs and home exercise options; understanding of signs and symptoms of disease; risk factor assessment, education and family counseling
When does phase II of cardiac rehab begin? within a week to several weeks after a cardiac event
What are the general goals of phase II cardiac rehab? increase aerobic and work capacity; secondary prevention; teach pt to monito HR and access symptoms of cardiac dysfunction during exercise; possible increase strength and flexibility
