QuestionAnswer
the specific heat of water is greater than that of dry soil
What causes heat transfer? Heat will flow because of difference in temperatures
When two bodies of different temperatures are in contact, what is the overall direction of heat transfer? hot to cold
What are different methods of heat transfer? Conduction, Convection, Radiation
Conduction and convection cannot happen simultaneously true
What is the amplitude of a wave? Distance from the center line to the top of a crest, or to the bottom of a trough.
What is the period of a wave? the time for a particle on a medium to make one complete vibrational cycle
What is meant by the wavelength of a wave? the distance between identical points in the adjacent cycles of a wave form signal, or along a wire
How can you mathematically express wave frequency in terms of wave period? f=1t
When is wavelength directly proportional to the period of a wave? When it's an electromagnetic wave
How do waves superimpose on each other? adding their disturbances
What is interference of waves? constructive- lined up destructive- not lined up
What are standing waves? combination of two waves moving in opposite directions
How are standing waves formed? by the superposition of of two travelling waves of the same frequency moving in different direction
What is the reflection of a wave? change in direction of a wave when it bounces off a barrier
What is the inversion of a wave? flips vertically
Which wave property increases when you are speaking more loudly than softly? amplitude
What is a longitudinal rarefaction? where the particles are the farthest apart
What does the speed of sound depend on? the mediums density or compressibility in gases
What term is used to describe the loudness of sound? sound amplitude
What is the Doppler effect? when something comes towards you loudly, but then becomes quiet

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
