Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and society.
The Equality Act covers the 9 specific groups of people, they are called the 9 protected characteristics.
The 9 protected characteristics are age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage & civil partnership and pregnancy & maternity.
Discrimination or unfair treatment on the basis of these protected characteristics is against the law in almost all cases.
The act provides a legal framework to protect the rights of individuals and promote equal opportunities for everyone.
It clarifies what private, public and voluntary sectors must do to ensure that people with protected characteristics are not disadvantaged.
