Term | Definition |

Divide | an area of raised terrain that separates a continent's river systems that feed to different basins. |
Headwaters | the source of a stream or river. |
Tributary | a freshwater stream that feeds into a larger stream, river or other body of water. |
Fall Line | the imaginary line between two parallel rivers, at the point where rivers plunge, or fall, at roughly the same elevation |
Fishery | an organized effort by humans to catch fish or other aquatic species, an activity known as fishing. |
Timberline | upper limit of tree growth in mountainous regions or in high latitudes, as in the Arctic. |
Chinook | warm, dry, gusty, westerly WIND that blows down the Rocky Mountains into the mountains' eastern slopes and the western prairies. |
Prairie | enormous stretches of flat grassland with moderate temperatures, moderate rainfall, and few trees |
Supercell | a thunderstorm characterized by the presence of a mesocyclone: a deep, persistently rotating updraft. |
Hurricane | tropical storms that form in the Atlantic Ocean with wind speeds of at least 119 kilometers (74 miles) per hour. |
Blizzard | a storm that must last for at least three hours and produce a large amount of falling snow. |
