| Kyphosis | Convex curvature of the upper back |

| Incontinence | Involuntary loss of bladder or bowl control |
| Colostomy | Surgical creation of an artificial anus (stoma) on the abdominal wall by incising the colon and drawing it out to the surface |
| Ileostomy | Surgical formation of an opening of the ileum onto the surface of the abdomen, through which fecal matter is expelled |
| Stoma | An external opening |
| Anastomosis | A surgical connection between two tubular anatomic structures |
| Recumbent | Any position in which the patient is lying down |
| Prone | Lying face down |
| Sims position | Used for rectal examinations and for taking a rectal temperature |
| Fowler position | A modification of the supine position in which the patient's upper body is elevated |
| Lordosis | Concave lumbar curve |
| Emesis | A term for vomit |
| Decubitus ulcers | Ulcerated areas over prominent bony structures when pressure is exerted for even a short period of time |
| Restraints | Used to restrict patient movement |
| Immobilization | Methods that prevent undesired motion during imaging procedures |
| Battered child syndrome | The characteristics of physical abuse in a child |
| Non-accidental trauma (NAT) | Another name for physical abuse |
| Elder abuse | Any knowing, intentional, or negligent act by a caregiver or any other person that causes harm or serious risk of harm to a vulnerable adult |
| Catheter | A hollow, flexible tube that can be inserted into a vessel or cavity of the body to withdraw or to instill fluids, monitor various types of information, or to visualize a vessel or cavity |
