9th grade Physical Sci.

QuestionAnswer
of an object is the measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles that make up that object. Temperature
of an object is the sum of the kinetic energy and the potential energy of all of the particles that make up that object. Thermal Energy
is energy that is transferred between objects due to a temperature difference between those objects. Heat
of a material is the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of that material by 1degreeC. Specific Heat
is the transfer of thermal energy by collisions between the particles that make up matter. Conduction
is the transfer of thermal energy in a fluid by the movements of warmer and cooler fluid. Convection
is the transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves. Radiation
is a material through which thermal energy moves slowly. Thermal Insulator
is a device that transforms radiant energy from the sun into thermal energy. Solar Collector
is the study of the relationships between thermal energy, heat, and work. Thermodynamics
states that if the mechanical energy of a system is constant, the increase in thermal energy of that system equals the sum of the thermal energy transfers into that system and the work done in that system. First Law of Thermodynamics
states that energy spontaneously spreads from regions of higher concentration to regions of lower concentration. Second Law of Thermodynamics
is a device that converts some thermal energy into mechanical energy. Heat Engine
a heat engine that burns fuel inside a set of cylinders. Internal Combustion Engine

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
